On the Go with Daily Harvest!
I have been working with Daily Harvest for over a year now, and if you don't know about them, they are LIFE CHANGING. Daily Harvest is a subscription delivery service where you get convenient, *real* organic food made for your life on the go. Full of ingredients you recognize, nutrients you need even when you don't have a fully stocked pantry, and the convenience of frozen meals with absolutely no compromise on quality. (And did I mention the work they do for sustainability, taking ugly produce that would otherwise go to waste and using it in their amazing recipes?! Absolutely brilliant.) With options ranging from smoothies, superfood lattes, harvest bowls, overnight oats, hot and chilled soups, protein smoothies and chia parfaits, there is something for every mood, time of day, and every packed schedule.
Especially over the last month with our move, Daily Harvest has allowed me to not only not eat out for every meal, but also not to have to try to survive on protein bars and coffee while we were cleaning out the fridge in our old apartment and getting oriented in the new one. Keeping my small blender, a 12 oz reusable travel mug, a microwave safe bowl, almond milk and and some cutlery was all I needed to eat like a real person, even when everything else was chaos.
I'm super excited to share some of my favorite ways to Daily Harvest with you, shot in the new apartment (!!!!) IRL as Mark and I are doing our best to settle in. We have finally unloaded all our kitchen gadgets, but are still relying on quick and easy meals to power through the unpacking process- Daily Harvest is literally the only thing in my freezer right now!
I've been living off breakfast smoothies after morning yoga or barre for a quick and easy refuel. Smoothies always seem like a great idea until you're pulling out a zillion things from the freezer and realize you don't have anything frozen except kale and it somehow turns into a slimy, unappealing sludge. Daily Harvest has amazing pre-portioned smoothies with perfectly nutritious and balanced recipes that get all those vitamins and minerals in there while also tasting amazing. My personal favorite is the Mint & Cacao Smoothie . Pro tip? Add hazelnut milk and a scoop of protein powder for the most delicious workout recovery! Add more or less liquid to get to your desired consistency- I like it a little thicker so usually opt for less milk! Throw it in a bowl as the base for a gram worthy smoothie bowl, or toss it back in the to-go cup with a reusable straw for a spill proof breakfast on the go.
Trying to unpack before Mark and I head back to work and real responsibilities and schedules means that I don't want to spend 2 hours making fancy vegetarian lunches, washing and cutting up a ton of different fresh veggies. But my foray into being a vegetarian has made me a little wary of the "quick and easy" options that usually aren't quite as full of nutrients as I'd like.
I love the Daily Harvest Chickpea and Za'atar Harvest Bowl for lunch-- all you need is to pop the frozen contents of the cup into a microwave safe bowl and go for about 4 minutes-- I usually stir it halfway through-- and then throw it back into the cup for on the go. If you have more time to sit down, I love to put the bowl on top of some mixed greens. If you have some fresh sides in your fridge (I had feta, olives, half an avocado and red pepper hummus, so I threw those on top!) or an additional protein source they can be fun to add depending on your hunger level-- it can definitely be a full lunch without anything added! The Chickpea bowl is one of the new bowls that came out this summer, and it quickly replaced the Brussel Sprouts and Tahini as my favorite!
A few of my other favorite Daily Harvest options? Honestly ALL OF THEM. I have made it my mission to work through all the flavors, but new ones keep coming out, so I guess I'll have to keep working through it!
A few of my favorites and ideas for customizing the already amazing options:
- Personal favorite: Add 1 tsp of food grade rosewater to the Coffee + Cardamom Latte blended with oat milk and served over ice for a light and perfectly refreshing morning coffee.
- Butternut Squash and Chimichurri Harvest bowl in tortillas with some cabbage and avocado for quick veggie tacos
- Add fresh mint to the Cacao + Avocado smoothie-- seriously so delicious!
- Add 1-2 espresso shots to the Chaga and Chocolate Latte after blending for a superfood mocha.
- Top the Dragon Fruit + Lychee smoothie with grain free granola and flaked coconut.
- Top any of the overnight oats with fresh fruit for an easy breakfast on the go
- The Turmeric Lemongrass Detox Broth absolutely saved my life when I had a nasty cold this spring-- I am pretty sure it's the only thing I ate for a week!
